By all accounts the ice has come off many of Alberta’s ponds and small lakes at least a couple of weeks earlier than normal. This means hatchery fish have been moving into their new habitat thanks to the efforts of the Alberta Conservation Association.
Todd Zimmerling explains how the fish stocking program has been in place for the past 15 years, and has resulted in close to one-and-a-half million trout being put into some 60 ponds and small lakes around the province. A number of these ponds provide fishing opportunities where none existed before, opening a door to new anglers to experience the joy fishing can bring… not too mention taking the odd fish home for the frying pan.
